| Auto insurer Direct General gets new CEO Posted: 02 Sep 2010 12:43 PM PDT Direct General Corp. named Carey D. Benson its new president and chief executive, replacing Dan Tarantin who the auto insurer said would continue as an investor and advisor to its board. Benson has 35 years of insurance industry experience. He most recently was the CEO of AutoOne Insurance of Melville, N.Y. and held CEO and other senior roles with several companies. Tarantin became CEO of Nashville-based Direct, which targets high-risk drivers, three years ago after the insurer was taken private by private equity firms. Before that, he had been CEO of Cendant Corp.'s former Franklin-based Progeny Marketing Innovations unit.
