“Keep auto insurance standards high” |
| Keep auto insurance standards high Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:42 AM PST When Wisconsin established a requirement that drivers carry sufficient auto insurance, that helped all consumers. It assured that everyone on the road has adequate coverage, and that makes it easier for Wisconsinites who are injured by another driver to access the money they would need to recover and be made whole. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not make money by assuring that everyone is adequately covered and that those who are injured are made whole. Insurance companies make money by charging a lot for premiums and paying out as little as possible. So now, to help the insurance companies keep their profits high, legislative Republicans are proposing to reduce minimum coverage requirements for auto insurance. That will help insurance companies and harm Wisconsin families. Legislative Democrats have blocked the move. So far. But the Republicans keep pushing and they will succeed in making the change unless consumers make a lot of noise about the importance of keeping our roads safe, our drivers insured, and our victims of car accidents sufficiently covered so that they can get back on their feet.
