Princeton, NJ (Vocus/PRWEB) March 03, 2011 CURE Auto Insurance and 94.5 PST are pleased to announce that Daniel Fine of West Windsor, N.J. has been selected as the winner of the sixth annual "Pay It Forward" Scholarship Award. Fine will receive up to $15,000 towards his college tuition. In addition, four other finalists were each rewarded a $1,000 grant at an awards reception Wednesday night. The "Pay It Forward" Scholarship Award recognizes young adults who perform unselfish, compassionate acts for their communities. The award embraces the idea that if everyone performed just one unselfish act, collectively it would result in a significant, positive social impact. Candidates for the award were nominated by colleagues, friends, and family members who submitted essays detailing the philanthropic activities of their nominees. "The sheer volume of applications we received from young adults with inspiring stories of selfless service to both local and international communities was astounding," said Eric Poe, COO of CURE Auto Insurance. "Daniel and the rest of this year's finalists truly embody the spirit of the 'Pay It Forward' Award. They have each lent their time and talents to people in need, neither expecting nor wanting anything in return. We are extremely honored to help them achieve their academic goals and seize future opportunities, as we are confident they will continue making a difference." Inspired and motivated by his brother's diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes, Fine began fundraising for a cure in 2006. He titled his effort "Team Brotherly Love," which has grown from a two man operation into an internationally supported organization with total donations exceeding $1,000,000. In addition, Fine launched "Dollars for Diabetes" in 2007, a program dedicated to teaching the concept behind philanthropy. An active student of Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J., Fine has been elected to the school's Discipline Committee, Student Senate, and Gold Key Organization and has been recognized as a USA Swimming Scholastic All American. The other four finalists include Alison Thompson of Holland, Pa., a student at George Washington University currently studying abroad in Kenya, assisting with women's empowerment initiatives; Harrison Kratz of Yardley, Pa., a young entrepreneur who recently started a public relations agency and actively volunteers for children's charities; Joe Forte of Bound Brook, N.J., a student at Raritan Valley Community College heavily involved with Student Government and campus charity projects; and Marissa Boretz of Westfield, N.J., a high school student who dedicates her time to various children's outreach programs. CURE Auto Insurance has made its name in the industry by refusing to conform to the unfair practices that many major auto insurance companies use when determining drivers' rates. CURE has been an unwavering advocate for drivers by revealing the industry's discriminatory practices for determining policy rates and calling for a legislative ban on the use of income proxies such as credit score, education, home ownership, and occupation. Poe teamed up with WPST in 2005 to further spread the "Pay It Forward" message and encourage young adults to continue making a positive impact within local and international communities. To date, CURE has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to young adults through this program.
